Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Must have an active nursing license prior to start date. Certifications: ACLS, BCLS Must-Have: Proficient in cardiac monitoring. Management of chest tubes. Fresh tracheostomy care and management. Feeding tube care and management. Care of post-operative patients. Epidural management. Management of non-titratable cardiac drips. IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips. External BiPAP/CPAP management. Total laryngectomy care. Doppler flap checks. Description: First-time travelers are accepted. Local candidates are not accepted. If a traveler calls in for a contracted shift, the expectation is to make up the day during the pay period if a 0.9 FTE. If unable to make up during the pay period, the shift will be added at the end of the contract. For a 1.2 FTE, any call-in shifts will be added to the end of the contract. Travelers are expected to work every other weekend as per contract. Based on operational needs, consecutive weekends may be required. Pending operational needs, unit charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned with provided training and resources. All travel nurses must agree to the possibility of precepting and/or being assigned students to shadow during the assignment. Staffing ratios on the unit are 1:3-4. The unit is a Surgical Progressive Care Unit with almost ICU-level acuity. Patient diagnoses include ENT procedures, thoracic surgeries, general surgical procedures, and urology procedures. Candidates must have experience in managing arterial and central lines, fresh tracheostomies, chest tubes, surgical drains, and care of post-operative patients. Candidates should also be familiar with enteral feedings. Travelers may be expected to float to different levels of care with resources provided. Refusal to float may result in termination of the contract. Candidates must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays. Two supervisor references are required. Floating is required of all travelers within the hospital or to nearby affiliates. Candidates must have experience in required skill sets as specified in the job description.
